Many children are visual learners. Many of these same children are reluctant readers. Here’s a cool idea to bridge that gap from the Matton Public Library in Illinois.
And yet, the reporter for the Herald & Review characterizes this new library service as “part of their if-you-can’t-beat-them-join-them strategy.” Really? Is that what the Mattoon Public Library is doing? I guess I was under the impression that literacy is more than just text-based and that helping children learn to and love to read is a pretty non-controversial aspect of librarianship. Ooooo. DVDs. IN THE LIBRARY. Scandalous. Aren’t we past this yet? And here I thought gaming was the new pariah.
