Never has there been a tastier foot placed in a mouth. After blogging about the utter lack of national children-driven book awards, I find that there is, in fact, a spectacular program co-sponsored by IRA and the Children’s Book Council. The first-ever Children’s Choice Book Awards were announced on May 13th, 2008 during Children’s Book Week. Since it’s a relatively new award, I’m not too embarassed about being completely unaware of its existence. It is now my mission to spread the word to every child and children’s librarian I know. Let’s make the 2009 Children’s Choice Awards as big (nay, bigger!) than the Newbery’s. Bwaaahaaaaaa……………..
